About the Role
The surgery service at VCA Canada Vancouver Animal Emergency and Referral Centre is looking to add another dedicated Registered Veterinary Technologist (RVT) to our team. The caseload is diverse and interesting; our anesthesia technologists not only induce and monitor patients while under anesthesia, they place arterial lines, perform epidurals, and perform femoral and sciatic nerve blocks for orthopedic procedures with the assistance of a nerve finder. If you have an interest in pursuing a VTS in Anesthesia/Analgesia this is a fantastic opportunity to join a growing team, lead by an experienced VTS in Anesthesia/Analgesia who provides excellent support and mentoring. Previous anesthesia experience in a referral centre is an asset, but not a requirement. Highly motivated and confident new graduates with above average anesthesia experience and interest are also encouraged to apply.

Hours of work will generally be Monday through Thursday or Tuesday through Friday (ten hour shifts). Candidates should have some flexibility to be available on evenings and weekends, should coverage be needed in other areas of the hospital.

Job Duties / Responsibilities:
- The Research being carried out at the Indian Head Research Farm, AAFC, covers a wide range of topics, some of which include: best management practices for nutrient management in crop production, evaluating potential new crops, evaluating herbicide tolerance of minor crops, chloride nutrition in canaryseed, and disease management in oats, and nitrogen management using a self seeding annual legume cover crop.
If the student has a strong interest in entomology there is an opportunity to manage a project looking at the economic threshold of aphids in canaryseed. 
- Assist with the establishment, maintenance and harvesting of field plot trials evaluating a variety of agronomic practices for field crop production on the prairies
- Assist with data collection in the field (ie. plant density, plant height, disease and maturity measurements, biomass collections, etc)
- Assist with processing (ie: weighing, grinding, packaging, etc.) of samples (ie: soil, plant and grain) throughout the growing season and in the early winter months
- Assist with data entry
Requirements:
- Applicant must have a valid drivers licence
- Applicant must be willing to work outdoors and, at times, may have to work in dusty (including plant pollen) or loud environments
- Applicants should be interested in developing a career in biological, agricultural or environmental research
- Must clear a security Check
