Job Description:

West-Can Seal Coating Inc. is seeking a Journeyman Heavy Duty Mechanic to assist and support our team in both the shop (Didsbury, AB) and the field, with the responsibility of effectively performing maintenance and service on our fleet of equipment and vehicles.

Day to Day Responsibilities:

- Inspect and maintain equipment 
- Diagnose and repair malfunctioning equipment
- Maintain equipment as required by equipment manufacturer and company safety program
- Keep record of and track all repairs and parts invoicing
- Prioritize repair and maintenance requirements
- Assist in safe operation of equipment 
- Lock out and tag out defective equipment and inspect equipment for safe operation
- Report to site supervisor, owner/management.

Requirements:

- Current Class 5 Driver’s license (Candidates with class 1 or 3 with Q endorsement are preferred)
- CVIP required
- Willingness to travel and spend extended time away from home during peak season (May to November)
- Ability to work extended hours during the construction season (May to November)
- Ability to lift 70 pounds
- Self-starter as well as a team player
- Strong ability to multi task.

Qualities of a successful candidate:

The successful candidate shall be physically fit, a hardworking team player that recognizes the value of work place safety, a minimum 2 years’ experience, and must hold a valid industry journeyman certification.

Job Description:

We are seeking an APPRENTICE HEAVY DUTY ON ROAD MECHANIC. This is an exciting opportunity for the right candidate to learn and work in a supportive environment while advancing your career!

The shift would be M-F 8am-4:30pm to start. You will be working out of our Calgary shop, repairing and maintaining Road Maintenance Equipment. You will be mentored by our Journeyman Heavy Duty Mechanic who is responsible for the diagnosis and repair on all heavy equipment (on road) used in road building and maintenance such as; Plow Trucks, Heavy Trucks, Light Trucks, Loaders, Graders, etc. Work will be within a shop, with field repair as required.

JOB DUTIES:

Wash and lube equipment;
Regular cleaning and maintenance of the shop;
Pick up and stock parts;
Assist Journeyman with preventative maintenance inspections and repairs;
Complete required paperwork to document services performed;
Participate in additional training required;
Have a positive attitude to safety compliance and creating a safe work environment;

QUALIFICATIONS:

A valid Inter-Provincial or Provincial 1st or 2nd year HD Mechanic Apprentice Certification
Road construction background a definite asset
Minimum class 5 with a clean driving record

Job Description

• Review plans, drawings, work samples, specifications, and work orders to determine work requirements and sequence of welding assignments.
• Operate welding equipment to fuse metal segments using weld processes such as GMAW and SMAW.
• Square up and weld components in various directions: flat, horizontal, vertical or overhead, etc. 
• Clamping, holding, tack-welding, heat-bending, bolting, or grinding parts as necessary to satisfy the technical requirements and create a welded final product.
• Examine finished products to ensure the specifications are met.
• Operates drill presses, power saws, grinders and a variety of welding equipment and hand tools.
• Assist with maintenance and repair.

Apprentice Heavy Duty Equipment Technician - Closing Applications: Dec 30, 2018

Job Description:

Reporting to the Maintenance Manager, the Heavy Equipment Technician Apprentice is responsible for effectively and efficiently performing preventative maintenance and repairs on the company equipment to manufacturing or company standards in both the shop or field locations.

Responsibilities

Service, inspect, disassemble and assemble equipment and vehicles to perform routine maintenance work and repairs as requested.
Diagnose equipment problems, disassemble and reassemble components on equipment by using all appropriate tools and following company and manufacturing procedures.
Determine and communicate to staff, management and the Maintenance and Shop Foreman on any equipment or maintenance requirements.
Investigate and research root cause analysis on equipment malfunctions and provide recommended solutions to Shop Foreman.
Operate a hoist and lift devices to position equipment in a safe and efficient manner.
Prepare work orders and ensure that work orders are closed upon completion of required tasks.
Perform checks to ensure that the equipment is suitable for field work or travel.
Maintenance for all units and ensure that they are 100% functional when dispatched to the field.
Respond to emergency-situations and participate in practice drills.
Ensure all company standards and operation equipment manufacturing requirements are followed.
Keep abreast of industry standards.
Operate electronic mail systems and coordinate the flow of information both internally and externally with other organizations.
Ensure operations are conducted in a safe and efficient manner and in compliance with federal and provincial legislation and with WISE policies.
Other assignments as directed.

Qualifications and Education Requirements

A 1st, 2nd, 3rd or 4thyear Heavy Equipment Technician is required.
Valid class 5 driver’s license with less than six demerits is required. Class 1 preferred.
Efficient in MS Word, MS Excel and MS Outlook.
Must be punctual, reliable and professional.
Must be quick, proactive, self-disciplined, self-organized, and have a good professional attitude towards visitors and staff.
Effective communication and organizational skills.
Excellent ability to think quickly and make the most effective decisions in high-pressure situations.

Working Conditions

Duties require an on call 24/7 during a set rotation in a shop and field locations.
Must be able to lift up to 50 pounds and work in adverse weather conditions.
Must pass a pre-employment physical and drug test.
Must be able to be away from home for long periods of time.
